Scratch Preparation
Welcome to the first context for learning coding in our new Coding Club
Scratch is a fun medium to start to learn the basics of coding logic.
Getting ready for Scratch
Some of you may be familiar with the computer application called “Scratch”.
Scratch has been created free to help students learn computer logic and the processes in computer programming in a fun way.

SCRATCH ACCOUNT
Scratch online accounts require an email address. Use your parent's email address, and make sure that they are nearby, as they will receive a confirmation email that must be clicked.
Navigate to the Scratch website at: http://scratch.mit.edu and click on “Join Scratch” to get started creating a Scratch account.
When asked to create a USERNAME, use your club username. Your work will be assessed, and so if you use some random username I will not know who you are and will not be able to give you credit for your work. Use your club password for your SCRATCH account too. Use your parent's email address when/if asked.
Get your parent to check their emails and find the Scratch confirmation email – you may need to click the long blue link to get it to work to confirm that it is really you joining, and then you are ready for our first session on Monday 13th October. Note: the actual button in the confirmation email did not seem to work the last time I tried it a few years ago – just the blue words (link) under it.
If you want, you can update your Scratch profile page, and explore the Scratch online community. Practice signing in and out of your account. If it asks for a parent email address, use it or Mr Pester’s: info@roseweb.co.nz
Throughout the whole course I will encourage you to continue coding in your own time. That includes now. You do not have to wait until our first session, feel free to start learning!
